Paraprofessional Jobs in New York

Paraprofessional Job Details:

  • 1:1 assignments for in school and/or transportation to and from school
  • Paraprofessional – school health aide
  • Part-time and Full-time positions available
  • School setting
  • School hours – varies

Typical Paraprofessional Job Responsibilities:

The role of the school-based paraprofessional is to assist with the daily care of one student with emotional, cognitive, physical handicaps, autism or other special needs. Their responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Redirecting students on classroom tasks as needed
  • Assist in behavior management
  • Provide instructional reinforcement for students
  • Attend to student’s physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
  • Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans
  • Assist with administrative duties such as setting up equipment and preparing materials
  • Teaching daily living skills such as independent feeding, dressing, toileting
  • Collecting data documenting student behavior for instructional purposes
  • Providing language assistance for bilingual students

General Paraprofessional Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to understand child’s needs
  • Previous experience with childcare (preferred)
  • Paraprofessional Certification (preferred)
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good writing skills

Typical Paraprofessional Qualification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associates Degree or higher (preferred)
  • Some completion of study at an institution of higher learning (preferred)
