Cook Assistant - Manhattan, NY
Position Summary
The Cook Assistant supports meal preparation and kitchen operations in a high-volume kitchen serving approximately 240 meals daily. This role assists with food production, maintains sanitation standards, and helps support volunteers in the kitchen.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily food preparation, cooking, and storage using standardized recipes and production schedules.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, labeling, and temperature control requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and work areas.
- Assist with inventory, supplies, dishwashing, and general kitchen operations.
- Provide basic guidance to volunteers on kitchen procedures and safe food handling.
- Support meal production planning and assist with events or other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- NYC Food Handler’s Certificate required; ServSafe required or obtained within 60 days.
- Minimum 2 years of food service or food preparation experience; high-volume kitchen experience preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and large-batch cooking.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Basic computer skills required; basic English required, Spanish preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Onsite kitchen position with primarily weekday early morning hours.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
